THE Comelec Law Department is still processing the Certificate of Candidacy of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy even though the leaders of the political party Workers’ and Peasants’ Party (WPP) declared that they did not sign the Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance (CONA) of Pastor Quiboloy to run for senator.
According to Comelec Spokesperson Atty. John Rex Laudiangco, all COCs and CONAs filed by senatorial candidates will be reviewed by their law department before a decision is made.
Laudiangco said that Pastor Quiboloy may be declared an independent candidate if the mentioned party did not really sign his CONA.
However, since the COC is a sworn statement, one could be charged with perjury if it is proven that the details or signatures provided are incorrect or false.
Comelec reiterated that they will still scrutinize the COCs of senatorial aspirants before releasing the official list of candidates.
Any registered voter can file a petition with the Comelec to have a candidate’s COC canceled, disqualified, or declared a nuisance candidate.
