SENATE President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada has accused former Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo of mocking Philippine government processes and disrespecting the electoral system after she fled the country while facing human trafficking charges.
During a public hearing conducted by the Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality on Monday, September 9, 2024, Estrada revealed that Guo, also known as Guo Hua Ping, escaped to Taiwan with the help of an individual holding five passports from various countries, including Saint Kitts and Nevis, China, Cyprus, Dominica, and Cambodia.
“Why did he/she facilitate your escape?” Estrada questioned Guo, who refused to answer citing safety concerns.
Estrada also pointed out that Guo submitted a counter-affidavit to the Department of Justice (DOJ) regarding her human trafficking case, which was notarized on August 14 in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, despite her having already fled the country.
“It was all part of the narrative that Alice Guo was still here—her lawyers insisting that they were told by Alice Guo that she is still here in the country despite reports that she was seen abroad. She openly mocked our government processes, disrespected our electoral system, and insulted every Filipino by believing she could run for mayor, win, and never be caught,” Estrada stressed.
The Senate committee is investigating the circumstances surrounding Guo’s escape and the alleged involvement of the individual who facilitated her flight. The committee is also looking into the authenticity of the counter-affidavit submitted by Guo.
