OUSTED Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo will try to escape to the ‘Golden Triangle’ region in Southeast Asia and not to China, said the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC).
Winston Casio, PAOCC spokesperson said the agency thinks Guo is headed to the Golden Triangle because of her family’s business ties near the area.
The Golden Triangle is a region that includes parts of Burma, Thailand, and Laos. It is known as a major drug trafficking corridor.
“As far as the PAOCC is concerned, we’re confident that she’s trying to get into the Golden Triangle because the family, the Guo Family, has business interest, gambling interests in Cambodia. So, that would be the safest bet that we have as of this moment,” Casio said in a news forum on Saturday.
Thailand and Laos share a border with Cambodia.
Casio also said the agency does not expect Guo to head to China because she is a person of interest there due to her alleged involvement in the illegal operations of Philippine offshore gaming operators.
“She will definitely not go to China in as much as she is already a person of interest as far as China’s concerned because she’s accused of a serious crime in the Philippines in relation to illegal gambling – and we know how strict China is in relation to gambling in their own territory. So, definitely, she would not be heading to any of those territories,” he said.
She is also not expected to go to countries that have an extradition agreement with the Philippines, he said.
Authorities are on the hunt for Guo after she left the Philippines amid the investigation into her POGO ties.
Guo, who has been ordered arrested by the Senate, was able to leave the country in July despite being placed in an immigration lookout bulletin.
She headed to Malaysia and then Singapore and Indonesia.
In Indonesia, her sister Sheila and companion Cassandra Li Ong were nabbed. They have since been brought back to the Philippines.
