SENATOR Robinhood Padilla approves the detention of independent contractor Jojo Nones, one of two independent contractors of GMA Network who are accused of sexually assaulting Sparkle artist Sandro Muhlach, after a motion made by Senate Pro Tempore Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada.
During Monday’s hearing, August 19, 2024 of the Committee on Public Information and Mass Media, Padilla, as a chairperson of the committee, agreed to the motion of Estrada to cite Nones in contempt. Padilla opened the hearing by clarifying that the committee does not have the authority to determine guilt or innocence.
He emphasized that their role is to develop new laws that will benefit the country. Padilla also clarified that they are not targeting anyone in the hearing and that they are there to ask the resource speakers what they can contribute to the law-making process.
“Do not be presumptive in this matter. No one here is saying who is at fault. There are obsolete codes and laws that need to be fixed,” Padilla said in Filipino. (Senate Public Relations and Information Bureau)
