AUTHORITIES arrested a man who according to police killed and raped a 27-year-old saleslady in Cebu City.
Police said the suspect, alias ‘Darren’, allegedly went inside the room being rented by the victim, Charina Relativo, on Friday morning.
The suspect confessed that he strangled the victim to death inside her room. The victim was alone when the incident happened after her live in partner left a few hours earlier to work.
The lifeless body of Relativo was discovered after she did not answer her partner’s call before noon.
Police Colonel Antonietto Cañete, acting city director of CCPO, said that around 7 in the morning, the victim was taking a bath when the suspect barged in.
The report said that part of the victim’s hair was burned as the suspect tried to seal the crime by trying to burn the house.
“Allegedly nanlaban(ang biktima), that is why [it] resulted to the instantaneous death because he exerted effort to make her silent,” Cañete said.
Authorities are waiting for the autopsy report to know if the victim was raped.
“There is no evidence to show it, very vital is the release of the report of the crime laboratory, the official report of course, what is their observation and findings whether or not there was a rape or not…we are still waiting,” said the official.
The suspect is facing murder charges and illegal possession of firearms.
