Security for PBBM’s 3rd SONA 100% ready — MMDA

Metrosundaily July 13, 2024

SECURITY measures are 100 percent ready for the third State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

This was assured by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in a news forum in Quezon City on Saturday.

The MMDA reported that concerned government agencies have done all the necessary preparations days ahead of the big event scheduled for July 22.

Emmanuel Miro, head of MMDA Special Events, however declined to reveal details of security measures arranged by the government for the occasion saying their agency is in charge of traffic concerns only.

“I’m not the right person sa security. Pero bilang bahagi po ng security interagency, it seems na okay naman. Mukhang hundred percent na tayo,” Miro said.

Miro said more than 1,300 MMDA personnel will be deployed during the SONA to take care of the traffic situation.

“Ang MMDA sa pangunguna po ni (acting) Chairman, Atty. Romando Artes, we will deploy 1,329 (personnel). This includes po sa traffic management, parking management, clearing, pati din po iyong ating mga technical team na mag-monitor po sa ating mga highways,” Miro added.

There will be a final interagency coordination meeting with Congress, Senate, and the Office of the President, he said. A meeting with the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) is also set, he added.

“In fact we have a final interagency coordination sa Congress. So, this [will be] represented po ng part ng Senate, ng House saka ng Office of the President. On the other side naman sa security, sa Tuesday we have a meeting with the NCRPO to finalize all plans at saka iyon pong deployment,” Miro noted.

Traffic measures will be implemented in key areas in Quezon City such as Luzon Avenue, Tandang Sora and Ever Gotesco, Miro said.

Miro said the MMDA will also be on the lookout for militant groups that might conduct protest actions during the SONA. They are also expecting supporters of President Marcos to arrive and hold rallies to support the Chief Executive, he added.
