A 74-year-old Filipino woman in San Francisco, California died after she was shoved into an oncoming train.
The victim was identified as Corazon Dandan, 74. She was waiting for her train at the Powell street BART Station when the suspect allegedly pushed her as a train was approaching.
Dandan hit her head on the train and fell on the platform. She later died at the hospital.
The suspect Trevor Belmont was arrested on the platform shortly after the incident. The 49-year-old Belmont, also known as Hoak Taing, is described as a transient.
In a press release, BART said the police were working to determine the motive for the crime.
The Philippine-born Dandan had migrated to San Francisco in the 1980s. While she had no children of her own, she helped put her nieces and nephews through school.
