Plugged laptop emits smoke in departure area at Dumaguete airport

admin June 24, 2024

THE Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines is reminding the public to thoroughly inspect their gadgets before plugging them into airport outlets, following an incident involving a burning charger of a passenger at Dumaguete Airport last night, June 23.

In a report received by CAAP Area Center 7, at around 8:23 PM, a laptop began to emit smoke while it was being charged at an electrical outlet in the departure area. CAAP security promptly responded and used a fire extinguisher to put out the burning charger. The fire was fully extinguished by 8:25 PM.

However, due to the strong smell of smoke, almost 160 passengers were temporarily relocated to the ramp area at around 8:27 PM. They were instructed to return to the pre-departure area at 08:40 PM and no flights have been affected.

CAAP strongly encourages the public to be vigilant with their electronic gadgets at airports, ensuring they are properly inspected and in good condition to prevent any potential incidents.
