JANISA Johnson, a standout athlete known for her explosive talent on the volleyball court, passed away on May 25, 2024, at the age of 32 after a courageous battle with colon cancer.

A product of CSU Long Beach, Johnson’s volleyball journey saw her playing in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) from 2018 to 2019.

Standing at 173 cm, she was a formidable spiker whose presence was felt across the league.

In 2018, Johnson played for NUNS-Bali Pure, teaming up with notable players like Alyssa Solomon, Mhicaela Belen, Jennifer Nierva, Faith Nisperos, and Ivy Lacsina.

Her dynamic leadership on the court left a lasting impression on her young teammates, carrying the learnings they got up to this day.

The following year, Johnson joined Petro Gazz for the 2019 Reinforced Conference.

Her partnership with Wilma Salas proved to be a winning combination, as they led the Angels to their first-ever championship victory.

This achievement marked a significant milestone in her career, showcasing her ability to elevate her team’s performance in crucial moments.

Johnson’s talents weren’t confined to the Philippines.

She took her skills overseas, playing for Radomka S.A. in Poland.

In March 2021, Johnson’s life took a challenging turn when she was diagnosed with colon cancer.

Janisa Johnson’s legacy in Philippine volleyball is one of excellence, passion, and courage.

Her impact on the court and her unwavering spirit off it will be remembered by her fans, teammates, and the volleyball community. pvl.ph
