FORMER senator Antonio Trillanes on Tuesday said the International Criminal Court might issue arrest warrants for former president Rodrigo Duterte and several others in connection with its probe of drug war killings in the Philippines this June or July.
Trillanes revealed the information based from the parties privy to the investigation.
The former senator, in a press conference on Tuesday said the ICC prosecutor is close to winding down the probe and is expected to request for the warrants of arrest.
He expects that the first warrant to be issued would be against Duterte, he said.
The second batch of arrest warrants, he said, could cover Sen. Ronald Dela Rosa, Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go, and Vice President Sara Duterte, with the latter being included for her own version of extrajudicial killings in Davao City when she became its mayor, as reported by abogado.com
As for the pronouncement of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. that the Philippines would not cooperate with the ICC, Trillanes said he believes Marcos would base his decisions on “prevalent circumstances.”
“He will say what he needs to say, but in the end he will do what he needs to do,” he said.
