THE office of the Speaker issued a public advisory Saturday, May 4 on “scam attempts using Speaker Martin Romualdez’s name”.
“We have been made aware of fraudulent activities conducted by individuals who are impersonating Speaker Martin Romualdez. These scammers are reaching out to his friends, acquaintances, and the public through phone messages, falsely claiming to represent Speaker Romualdez,” read the public warning.
“These fraudulent schemes involve the impersonation of Speaker Romualdez, with scammers typically requesting money under the pretense of urgency confidentiality,” the office shared.
“The office of Speaker Martin Romualdez strongly condemns these fraudulent practices and is collaborating with law to identify and prosecute enforcement agencies perpetrators,” it said in an obvious warning to the fraudsters.
“We remain committed to safeguarding the public and maintaining the integrity of our office,” it further said. Romualdez, Leyte’s 1st district congressman, is the leader of the 300-plus strong House of Representatives. He is the fourth highest ranked official of the land.
