AFTER drawing flak for halting a meeting on airport privatization to help a friend in using Google translate, Tourism Undersecretary Mae Elaine Bathan has resigned from the position.
Bathan tendered her resignation as Undersecretary for Legal and Special Concerns, and this took effect on April 30, according to a Business Mirror report, which quoted a source.
No reason was cited for her sudden resignation, the report said.
A social media post earlier detailed how Bathan stopped a meeting to aid her friend, Mandaue City Treasurer Regal Oliva, in navigating Google Translate while the latter was in Japan.
In a separate social media update, Bathan talked about prioritizing assisting a friend in need even if it meant temporarily pausing discussions on significant matters.
Acknowledging the backlash prompted by her post, Bathan had pledged to exercise greater discretion in her social media usage.
“I ask for kind understanding and sincerely apologize to the Secretary, my colleagues, and the public. Moving forward, I will practice more discernment in my use of any social media platform to ensure that this will not happen again,” she said.
