PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is not keen on the demand of televangelist Apollo Quiboloy that Philippine officials issue a written guarantee that the United States will not meddle in his criminal cases before he surrenders himself on charge abuse charges.
“It seems to me a little bit tail wagging the dog, na siya ang magbibgay ng condition sa gobyerno doon sa kaso na akusado siya sa warrant of arrest (It seems to me a little bit tail wagging the dog, that he would give a condition to the government in the case where he is an accused and facing a warrant of arrest),” Marcos told reporters.
What he could promise Quiboloy is compassion and fairness, said Marcos.
“We will exercise all the compassion to pastor Quiboloy, we’ve known him for a very a long time. What I can promise is all the proceedings will be fair,” he said.
He also said Quiboloy does not have to worry about US involvement at this point.
“That’s going to take years,” he said, apparently referring to the possibility of extraditing Quiboloy to the US where he is wanted for several charges including sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion, conspiracy, and bulk cash smuggling.
Quiboloy earlier said he would only surrender if Philippine officials give written assurance that the US would not interfere in his cases, claiming that Marcos is plotting with the Americans to subject him to “extraordinary rendition.”
