THE Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a magnitude 6.5 earthquake rocked offshore Sarangani in Davao Occidental on Saturday morning,
The quake occurred at 10:26 a.m., Phivolcs added.
The tectonic earthquake had its epicenter at 03.70°N, 126.66°E – 234 km S 36° east of Balut Island in Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
The quake had a depth of 66 kilometers.
Phivolcs said damage and aftershocks are expected.
Meanwhile, no tsunami is expected, Phivolcs said.
“No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data. This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake,” it said in its advisory.
Earlier in the day, a magnitude 5.4 quake struck Baganga town in Davao Oriental at 4:43 a.m.
