Another CHED commissioner suspended

admin January 22, 2024

COMMISSIONER on Higher Education Chair Prospero de Vera has suspended another commissioner of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)  — facing a 90-day preventive suspension order for various offenses.

De Vera said the Office of the President had suspended Commissioner Aldrin Darilag on charges of grave misconduct, neglect in the performance of duty and abuse of authority or oppression.

This developed only days after the Office of the Ombudsman’s order which found another CHEd commissioner Jo Mark Libre guilty of nepotism and grave misconduct.

“CHEd will look into the matter seriously and fairly,” De Vera’s statement read in part.

“We are committed to President Bongbong Marcos Jr.’s directive and vision that only the best, brightest, and most ethical individuals should lead our government,” the CHEd chief said.

“This preventive suspension is imposed so that Commissioner Darilag cannot use his office and position to influence the investigation and due process can be observed in the process,” De Vera said.

He did not say what specific complaints were raised against Darilag.

In October last year, Darilag was asked during a Senate inquiry if it was true that he used funds from the budget of state universities and colleges to pay for his family’s travel expenses.

He denied the charges, saying he could prove that he bought the tickets from his personal funds.
