THE Mindanao Independent Press Council (MIPC) on Monday said a total of P3.7 million reward is being offered for the arrest of the perpetrators behind the killing of radio anchor Juan Jumalon in Calamba, Misamis Occidental.
The MIPC statement said “The office of Governor Henry Oaminal Sr., on November 10, 2023, announced a reward of P500,000 for anyone providing information on the suspects’ whereabouts. Additionally, a substantial reward of P3 million is offered to any law enforcement official who successfully arrests any of the individuals responsible for this heinous act.”
“The commitment to justice is further highlighted by the contributions of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission, which has put up P100,000, and an additional P100,000 pledged to the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS),” it added.
Jumalon was killed on November 5 by an unidentified gunman while he was doing a live broadcast for his radio program on 94.7 Calamba Gold FM at his residence in Calamba, Misamis Occidental.
Police said the gunman went to Jumalon’s residence pretending to have an important announcement aired on the said radio station but suddenly drew his firearm and shot the radio anchor, hitting his lower lip towards the back portion of his head.
The victim was rushed to Calamba District Hospital by his family but was pronounced dead on arrival by the duty physician.
A computerized sketch of one of the suspects has been released. The suspect in the sketch was the one who stayed at the gate.
Murder and theft complaints were filed on November 8 against three suspects in the killing of the radio anchor.
PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said the complaint was filed before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Misamis Occidental.
