PNP ready to enforce upgraded Covid-19 alert level status

admin December 30, 2021

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) assures readiness in case the current Alert Level systems will be heightened by health authorities.

“We follow a template which is based on the National IATF guidelines. Each Alert Level System has a set of protocol to implement. The initial step is to orient every police unit about the protocol and work with the LGU in the enforcement,” PNP Chief Police General Dionardo B Carlos said.

The country follows a uniform protocol classification that is Alert Level 2, until the end of the year.

“But if the decision is to implement different Alert Level systems in various LGUs, then the PNP stands to recalibrate strategies according to the guidelines stipulated in every Alert Level,” Carlos said.

Considering the challenges, Carlos says, it is now the call of security personnel in establishments to serve as force multipliers in ensuring that health protocol is strictly observed.

Police personnel can’t be in every public place at all times. Given this limitation, the assistance of private security officer is a major boost.

Carlos also agrees to enforce granular lockdown in specific areas with relatively higher number of COVID-19 cases.

“This is a proven approach. The residents in the area are given much attention. The movement is controlled, but the possibility of spreading the virus is lesser,” Carlos added.
