A MOTOR tanker Sea Horse vessel caught fire Sunday morning at the Alpha Anchorage Area, Batangas.
Personnel of Coast Guard Station Batangas received a phone call from the Vessel Traffic Management System-Batangas informing that there was fire at sea at waters around Batangas Anchorage Area.
An unidentified dead person was found after the fire.
Immediately, CGS Batangas coordinated with the multi-role response vessel, BRP Bagacay; the Bureau of Fire Protection; and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Managament Office to request assistance in the conduct of firefighting at the said incident.
Likewise, PCG in Batangas launched a search and rescue operation to render necessary aid.
Meanwhile, three tugboats- Motor Tug Great Lark, Motor Tug Sedar 7, and Motor Tug Sedar 8—that were nearby the scene promptly assisted the stranded ship.
Joint Personnel of Philippine Coast Guard Diesel Fast boat (DF 308) together Bureau of Fire Protection conducted fire combat operation onboard the vessel.
Around 11:08AM, the distressed vessel was declared fire out.
Assessment and further investigation are being done at Coast Guard Sub Station Batangas City.
There was one recorded fatality, and investigation is still being done to identify the corpse.
The Marine Environmental Protection Group Batangas coordinated with Petron Company for a standby oil spill boom in preparation for possible oil spill response.
