Acidre, Philippine Army soldiers, face-to-face over MUP Pension Reform Bill

admin July 30, 2023

TINGOG Partylist Representative Jude A. Acidre graced the Military Uniformed Personnel (MUP) Pension Reform Forum initiated by the Civil-Military Operations Regiment (CMOR), Philippine Army on July 28, 2023 at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

In a hybrid set-up of participants from all over the Philippines, Acidre, who is one of the principal authors discussed the salient provisions of one of the most controversial bills the Congress is yet to pass this year.

The forum which lasted for almost two hours included Acidre’s presentation of the key provisions of the bill followed by a question-and-answer portion moderated by CMOR’s Regiment Commander Brig. Gen. Benjamin Hao.

Among the concerns raised by the soldiers was the possible review of institutional charters in MUP. Among the agencies currently classified as part of MUP but are not directly providing armed security services is the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA).

Moreover, the 1987 Constitution only recognizes the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police as the country’s only security and law enforcement organizations but there are existing agencies enjoying the same benefits as they do including the pension.

Acidre on the other hand, assured the soldiers that as one of the principal authors of the bill, the Congress will not pass a bill that is unfair and unsustainable and will later on degrade the hard work and sacrifices of the uniformed personnel.

He also said that his office would be open for any recommendations from the Philippine Army to create a win-win solution for all.

“Gusto natin ng batas na hindi kayo mawawalan, pero hindi rin mawawalan ang mga darating pa,” Acidre said.

The forum ended with Acidre thanking the organizers of the forum for giving him the opportunity to hear the Army’s concerns straight from them. He also emphasized his deep appreciation to the efforts of every soldier in protecting the country’s democracy.
