NBI official behind controversial ‘dance number’ identified, being probed

admin July 10, 2023

JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla announced on Monday that an investigation is underway regarding the recent performance of a scantily-clad dancer at the National Bureau of Investigation’s mid-year command conference, saying the inquiry will also explore whether similar incidents have occurred at previous events.

During a press briefing following the conclusion of his wellness leave, Remulla expressed his embarrassment over the incident, stating, “Nakakahiya itong nangyari’ng ito. Hindi natin ginusto ito” (This incident is embarrassing. We did not ask for this).

Furthermore, Remulla disclosed that the NBI official responsible for organizing the controversial performance has been identified and is currently under investigation.

“There is an ongoing probe. We will examine potential disciplinary actions,” stated Remulla, without specifying the extent of the investigation.

Additionally, Remulla supported NBI Director Medardo De Lemos’ assertion that no public funds were utilized to finance the entertainment showcase during the conference.

“No public funds were spent. It was entirely funded through contributions among themselves,” Remulla affirmed.

It was recently reported that NBI officials convened at Manila’s Diamond Hotel for their Mid-Year Command Conference last week, which featured various forms of entertainment, including a performance by a dancer dressed in revealing attire.

A video showed the dancer wearing black bikini bottoms, a shimmering top, and knee-high boots, energetically moving and swaying her hips at the center of the dance floor.

As the performance progressed, she approached the guests seated at the tables, captivating their attention with rhythmic hip movements and hand gestures in sync with the music.

De Lemos issued an apology on Friday for any offense caused, particularly to women, regarding the inclusion of a scantily-clad dancer during the recent mid-year command conference of the NBI.

“I sincerely apologize to anyone who was offended by the incident. We will ensure that it does not happen again. We have great respect for women,” de Lemos stated, emphasizing that a formal investigation is currently underway to identify those responsible.
