Rep. Arnolfo Teves
INMATE Jad Dera, who is currently facing charges related to illegal drugs, was apprehended in the early hours of Wednesday while attempting to re-enter the National Bureau of Investigation detention facility in Manila from an unauthorized trip.
This was confirmed by Justice Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Atty. Mico Clavano.
According to Clavano, Dera was found in possession of an undisclosed amount of cash, firearms, and a cellular phone.
However, there is currently no concrete evidence linking Dera to Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr.
Reports claim that Dera was purportedly acting as a bagman for Teves, and the confiscated cash was allegedly intended as bribery money for detained suspects involved in the murder case of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.
“At present, there is no established connection in that regard. What concerns us right now is the fact that Jad Dera was able to leave his detention center,” stated Clavano.
In response to the incident, the NBI has pledged to carry out a thorough investigation, involving six NBI security officers, comprising one permanent employee and five job order personnel.
“The NBI assures the public that our organization will not tolerate acts of betrayal of public trust. The Chief of the Security Management Section has already been relieved from duty pending the investigation,” the NBI said.
“Rest assured that the assigned investigators will meticulously delve into the details of the incident, including the possible involvement of other individuals. They will promptly file the appropriate criminal and administrative charges,” it added.
