MABINI Mayor Nilo Villanueva and his two brothers, Bayani and Oliver, faced inquest proceedings before the Department of Justice (DOJ) subsequent to their recent arrest on charges of illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
The apprehension was executed by the PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, who presented the Villanueva siblings for the inquest.
Bayani, the president of the Association of Barangay Captains in the municipality, and Oliver, a former police officer, were included in the proceedings.
The raids were carried out by a combined team from the CIDG and Special Action Force (SAF) at the residences of the Villanueva brothers in Barangays Sto. Tomas, Sampaguita, and Pulong Niyugan in Malvar. Local court-issued search warrants authorized the operations.
Reportedly, the searches yielded a 5.56 caliber rifle, an MK2 hand grenade, a .22-caliber handgun, a .45-caliber pistol, and multiple rounds of ammunition.
