Ako Bicol Rep. Co urges vigilance as Phivolcs raises Alert Level for Mayon

admin June 6, 2023

LEGAZPI, Albay – Ako Bicol Party List Representative Elizaldy Co is urging all Bicolanos to exercise caution and cooperate with the government following the recent decision by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) to raise the alert level for Mayon Volcano from Alert Level 1 to Alert Level 2.

The Phivolcs decision came after careful monitoring and assessment of the volcano’s activity, which indicated an increased likelihood of volcanic unrest. Alert Level 2 signifies that the volcano is experiencing a moderate level of unrest, which could lead to a possible eruption in the near future. This decision is a proactive measure to ensure the safety and well-being of the communities residing near Mayon Volcano.

Co recognizes the importance of preparedness and cooperation in times like these. He emphasizes the need for Bicolanos to stay informed and adhere to the advisories and precautions issued by the local authorities and Phivolcs. This includes following evacuation plans, avoiding the designated danger zones, and being vigilant for any further updates regarding the volcano’s activity.

“We must prioritize the safety of our communities and take the necessary precautions to minimize the risks associated with volcanic activity,” stated Co. “It is crucial for everyone to stay informed, remain calm, and cooperate with the government agencies involved in ensuring our well-being.”

“We want to assure the people of Bicol that Ako Bicol Party List is fully committed to supporting and assisting those in need during this challenging time,” added Co. “We understand the potential impact of the raised alert level on the livelihoods and well-being of our fellow Bicolanos. In response, we are prepared to extend our helping hand by providing aid, relief, and necessary resources to ensure that affected residents have uninterrupted access to essential services and the support they require.”

Co further emphasized, “As Ako Bicol Party List, we will work closely with local government units and relevant agencies to address the immediate and long-term needs of the affected communities. Our aim is to alleviate any hardships that may arise from this situation. Rest assured that our dedication to serving the Bicolanos remains unwavering, and their welfare will always be our utmost priority.”

Mayon Volcano, known for its majestic beauty, has also been historically active and has posed significant threats to nearby communities. The decision to raise the alert level is a proactive step to mitigate potential risks and protect the lives and properties of the people in the region.

Co highlights that the government will be working tirelessly to ensure the readiness of evacuation centers and provide necessary support to affected communities. He encourages everyone to assist and cooperate with the local authorities during any necessary evacuation process to ensure everyone’s safety.

Co calls upon the resilience and unity of the Bicolanos in facing this situation. He urges everyone to take this alert level increase seriously and remain vigilant, keeping in mind the safety of themselves and their loved ones.
