Gov’t to provide housing for uniformed personnel

admin March 22, 2023

THE national government is determined to provide housing for the country’s uniformed personnel, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said on Tuesday, as he vowed to continue working to give the police and the military decent shelter.

“We have begun to craft the program for the housing of the uniformed personnel, the policemen and the military,” President Marcos said after a meeting in Malacañang Palace with Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief of staff Gen. Andres Centino, Human Settlements Secretary Jose Acuzar and Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla.

“We are starting now to put together the system wherein they can be included in the financing system not only with public banks but also with private banks for this,” the Commander-in-Chief pointed out.

Marcos noted that there is available land for the program and the government has just to work on a scheme to get others onboard.

“We have to develop the concepts further but I’m determined to provide the housing for our uniformed personnel. We will not stop until we’re able to do that,” the President stressed.

Previously, the President led site inspections and launches of different housing projects in Metro Manila and in the provinces, most notably under the administration’s flagship program billed as the Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino: Zero ISF (Informal Settler Family) 2028 Program.

The Marcos administration’s housing program aims to address the housing backlog in the country pegged at more than 6.5 million units.

The chief executive tasked the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) to build 1 million housing units every year for the next six years, with Php36 billion annual interest support from the national government.
