PCUP mini caravans exceeds target from 3K to 6,247 beneficiaries

admin October 16, 2022

Part of the mandate of the PCUP is to link the urban poor and give them access to concerned government agencies.

AFTER conducting mini caravans from May until September the current year, the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) was able to reach out and provide much needed service to over 6,000 beneficiaries across the country, exceeding its target of 3,000 for the year 2022.

Although the project has already been completed for the year to give way for the preparations of the upcoming Local Government Unit Forum (LGUF) scheduled on October 25 and the Urban Poor Solidarity Week (UPSW) in December, PCUP chairperson and chief-executive-officer Undersecretary Elpidio Jordan Jr. promised that the Commission is now formulating other initiatives that would better serve the country’s marginalized sectors, particularly the urban poor.

“This does not mean that we will no longer reach out to our poor countrymen because we will be expanding our programs to further accommodate those who need our services. Hindi kami titigil sa pagtulong sa ating mga maralitang kababayan,” Jordan stressed in reference to President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. ‘s advocacy of poverty alleviation.

Part of the mandate of the PCUP is to link the urban poor and give them access to concerned government agencies that can facilitate the resolution of their concerns, such as housing and livelihood and even health, education and employment issues.

In most of the PCUP’s mini caravans, beneficiaries of the project were able to avail of the services provided by the Commission and other partner agencies and private sectors that include but not limited to medical missions and dental care, feeding programs, job hiring and skills training and distribution of hygiene kits, and food packs.

Urban poor beneficiaries expressed their deep gratitude to the PCUP for their dedication and commitment to provide assistance to them, stressing that the agency’s efforts have moved them closer to much needed help from the national government.

“Nagpapasalamat kami kay Pangulong Marcos dahil ngayon ay nararamdaman namin ang katapatan ng pamahalaan na tulungan kaming mga maralita,” they enthused.

From May 31 until September 22, reach out activities were conducted by the PCUP in Barangay Cabuan in Guinsiliban, Camiguin; Pangarap Village in Bgy. 182 in Caloocan City; Bgy. Badiang in Maasin City, Southern Leyte; Bgy. Fatima in Ubay, Bohol; Bago City in Negros Occidental; Bgy. Poblacion in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat; Bgy. Manoc-Manoc in Malay, Aklan; Bongao in Tawi-Tawi; and Ipil in Zamboanga Sibugay.
