
Firefighters try to control the blaze in more than three hour-fire in Binondo, Manila.
ELEVEN people were killed in a fire that hit a five-storey commercial-residential building in Binondo, Manila Friday morning, said the Bureau of Fire Protection.
In a radio report on Balitanghali, the information on the number of fatalities was initially from Kagawad Nelson Ty of Barangay 289 , Zone 27, who has been coordinating with the members of the Bureau of Fire Protection.
The BFP-National Capital Region later confirmed the information.
Initial report from the BFP-NCR showed that the fire at 647 Carvajal street in Binondo was declared on first alarm at 7:28 a.m. and reached second alarm at 8:14 p.m.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze believed to be started at the canteen when a liquefied petroleum gas being used in the kitchen exploded at 9:31 a,m, It was declared out at 10:03 a.m.
Around P100,000 worth of properties were damaged due to the fire
Reports said most of the victims were boarders residing in the building.
“Mga boarders ang karamihan sa mga biktima at nagrerenta lamang sa building. Nasa mga probinsiya ang kanilang pamilya,” said witnesses.
